Music for the Space Traveller

For those that appreciate the retro-ambient, techno-punk sounds of the EVE original score, but want to expand their horizons, the radio streams of Bluemars, Cryosleep, and Voices From Within may be your fix.

I wish I knew when and why these stations originated, but for now it’ll just have to be one of those odd gems you come across online—three 24/7 radio stations dedicated to space faring ambience. I’m all in.

Granted, sometimes it may be a bit cheesy for some people’s taste, but go back and watch Blade Runner again and tell me Vangelis’s original score doesn’t sound dated. In fact, that’s kind of the point, for me. It’s all about nostalgia—a time warp back to the infancy of electronic music when our closest relationship with the medium was based on visions of the future. It was all…alien to us, in a way.

But at the best of times it isn’t cheesy at all, and really nails the atmosphere of the noir depths of space. It may not top a fleet op while jamming AC/DC for some, but I’ve enjoyed a great kick of immersion the past few days.
