Saturday Coffee Reads

Every Saturday, if life permits, I spend the morning scouring forums, catching up on longer blog reading, and researching various aspects of EVE while I sip on some coffee and throw down a bagel. Here’s where I share the more interesting findings.

  • EVE: The Other Woman - Great post from a new blog, Freebooted by Seismic Stan, about the woes of gaming with a disapproving wife. As tongue-in-cheek his “brownie points” system is, to me, it’s all too real. Mastering the art of appeasing her with the little things to “earn” a weekend of play is just the name of the married game, my friends. Unless your wife games (envy doesn’t begin to describe it), take this post as gospel. The man preaches the gorram truth.
  • Spectre Vs. Skira - God this is going to be entertaining. Spectre’s account of running into a fellow pirate corp in space (lead by the fantastic blogger Kokuryu, which I think is also Skira) that begins as innocent pirate shenanigans and ends with a declaration for blood. To me, I see no real honor or dishonor in either of their actions. They’re just being pirates through and through, and for entertainment purposes I wouldn’t want it any other way. Can’t wait to see what comes of this.
  • How to Enjoy EVE - A common enough question on the EVE forums is surprisingly answered with good sincerity, and leads to a really nice exchange of how pilots learned to have fun in EVE. I suppose I found this interesting as I feel like now, after 6 months of playing, just lately have I found real thrill in the game. The varying stories say so much about New Eden as a ‘sandbox’. Especially note Prieith’s account of getting podded in his first few days, vowing to find and kill his attacker, and where fate has taken him since. I could read a book of people’s game experiences like this.
